I make complicated things useful.

I’m Chrystopher James — an IT and MSP leader, founder, practical builder, church tech lead and enthusiastic volunteer who has never been especially good at leaving an interesting problem alone.

Current processes

What I’m doing now.

Several things at once, apparently. Here are the main threads currently using the available processing power.

MSP

Leading Ascentas IT

Heading the IT division and its managed-services operation: infrastructure, Microsoft cloud, security, continuity and the day-to-day work that keeps clients moving.

CJG

Building practical ventures

Founder and owner of Chrystopher James Group, connecting a growing family of useful businesses and purpose-led projects.

CCC

Serving at Connect Church

Tech Lead, Men’s Breakfast cook and Head Alpha Chef — because serving people sometimes needs a network cable and sometimes needs a frying pan.

CF26

Preparing for Creation Fest

IT Team Lead and Volunteer Hub Team Lead for Creation Fest’s 25th Annual Event at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre in August 2026.

Choose a mode

Work. Build. Serve.

Different expressions of the same instinct: understand the problem, make the next step clearer and do something genuinely useful.

01Work

Make technology dependable.

Infrastructure, managed services and support should quietly help people do good work. If everybody is thinking about the server, something has probably gone wrong.

Explore the work
02Build

Turn useful ideas into real things.

Businesses, systems, websites and workflows all begin in roughly the same place: a problem, a blank page and an unreasonable quantity of curiosity.

03Serve

Use what you know to help people.

Faith becomes practical through welcome, consistency and service — whether that means leading technology, cooking breakfast or helping hundreds of volunteers find their place.

Life and faith

A very compressed timeline

The route was not exactly linear.

Service desks led to major incidents. Major incidents led to automation. Automation met managed services. Then the businesses started multiplying.

Default settings

A few things I keep coming back to.

01

Useful beats impressive

The best systems and ideas make somebody’s real day better. Clever for its own sake is just expensive decoration.

02

Clarity is a kindness

Plain words, honest expectations and obvious next steps remove friction and help people move with confidence.

03

People are not tickets

Support works best when the person matters as much as the problem. Listen first, solve carefully and leave things clearer.

04

Faith should have sleeves

Belief becomes visible in service: turning up, doing the unnoticed jobs and using whatever is in your hands to help.

Things I’ve built

One group. Several useful doors.

The ventures cover different ground, but they share an allergy to needless complexity and a preference for helping real people.

See every venture

End of this screen, not the conversation

Curious people usually find something to talk about.

If something here overlaps with your work, idea, church, project or unusually specific technical puzzle, there is a sensible route to get in touch.
